Harper Brothers Use Their Gift to Succeed
Tevin and Taydon Harper were given a gift from their late father, Terrel Harper that will benefit them for a lifetime. The two brothers feel they inherited the gift of being mechanically inclined from their father, who was a great Diesel Mechanic.
Kelsy Grunewald, Recipient of Ted Kyle Memorial Scholarship
Kelsy Grunewald, adult student in the Practical Nursing Program, is the recipient of the 2016 Ted Kyle Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the family of Ted Kyle in honor of his many years of service as a member on the High Plains Technology Center board. Ted Kyle was instrumental in getting High Plains Technology Center off the ground. All adult students at HPTC are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
Grey Berry Diesel Tech State Champion
Grey Berry, a High Plains Tech Center Diesel student, placed first and earned a gold medal in Diesel Equipment Technology at the State SkillsUSA contest April 18th, 2016 at Tulsa Tech Center. Grey competed against adults from across the state in 14 troubleshooting stations. Each station had a written test and hands-on skills assessments.
Sheena Dauphin Overcomes Obstacles to Succeed
It's not the average Cinderella story. But it is, indeed, the story of a local woman dealing with difficult hurdles who, with the help of a fairy God mother of sorts and some dogged determination of her own, found a way to go to the ball. Sheena Dauphin, a High Plains Technology Center graduate, pushed the envelope of not only her commitment to school and self improvement, she also stretched her creative bounds beyond what she thought she was capable of.
Students Receive Wind Tech Certifications
On Thursday, June 2, 2016, High Plains Technology Center celebrated 12 Wind Tech students as they completed the 20 week Wind Tech training and received their certifications. Another is expected to graduate on July 1, 2016. All 13 students have either accepted or been offered a job in the Wind Industry! This is the fifth class that has gone through this program at HPTC. There has been a return on investment for students in this class with a 100% hire rate for those who are qualified, finished the course, and applied with Wind Companies. Overall there is a 92% hire rate for past and present classes combined. A few students either chose not to explore a career in Wind, or didn’t pass background screening.
Amber Baker wins first place at HOSA International Leadership Conference
Amber Baker, an adult student at HIgh Plains Technology Center won first place in Prepared Speaking at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in Nashville in June.
